YAHOO! HOTJOBS
Dreaming about a new job? Put your dreams to work. Yahoo! HotJobs has launched The Big Game Plan, a national sweepstakes in which 8 winners will be afforded the opportunity to try their hand at their "dream job." Winners will be allowed to shadow business leaders in sports, media, fashion and other industries. The promotion launched this week and will be active on the HotJobs Web site until February 8.



UNICRU
Small retailers and restaurants that still deal with hand written job applications will now have new options for entering the digital age. Unicru, which makes a variety of products that deal with job applications, has unveiled two new products in that realm. Hireport is an application capture station that is used for onsite applications. The company also has announced a new IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system for dealing with applications made over the phone. http://www.unicru.com/



SHRM
Big Brother was supposed to have been left behind in George Orwell's 1984 and a survey of 21st century workers indicates they don't want to see the idea creeping into 2005. The 2005 Workplace Privacy Survey conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management and CareerJournal.com shows that many employees think that surveillance strategies used in the name of corporate security are really used because they don't trust their workers. 336 HR professionals and 520 employees took part in the survey. HR representatives, in general, felt that corporations have the right to monitor behavior while the employee group was less understanding about practices like monitoring cell phone usage and employee e-mail.



ONREC.COM
A pair of Web sites focused on delivering content on the human capital industry have inked a syndication deal. Onrec.com, the largest recruitment portal in Europe, will continue to bolster its U.S. presence by publishing the set of press releases distributed by HRmarketer.com each week. HRmarketer, which publishes press releases for a broad set of providers in the recruitment world, has recently set up several similar distribution partnerships.



LUCAS GROUP
The Lucas Group, an Atlanta-based executive search firm that has grown into several locations in this country is now expanding overseas as well. The company is opening a new office in Berlin, Germany that, like its American brethren, will focus on serving several different industries. Lucas Group executives expect the new office to lead the way for more expansion in Europe, particularly Eastern Europe.



HUMAN CAPITAL INSTITUTE
The Human Capital Institute, a growing researcher and educator in talent management issues, has announced a new global underwriter. Hiredesk, a "quality of hire" solutions provider, has signed on to lend financial support and thought leadership on hiring issues. HCI and Hiredesk recently completed their first joint online seminar; it was entitled "Quality of Hire, Reducing the Risk of Employment Litigation."



HR.COM
HR.com has announced the availability of a new article on its information portal. "Using EPM to Advance Corporate Values: A Case Study of Lee Enterprises" looks at how Lee, a 14-year old newspaper company, used an Employee Performance Management system from Halogen Software to track the work of 6,700 employees spread out over 44 newsrooms in 19 states. The article also looks at the criteria that Lee used in selecting an EPM vendor,
